Changes for mortgage style student loans

The Department for Education (DfE) has made and confirmed a few changes for the year 2022. The changes were made effective as of 1 September 2021.

• The standard student loan interest rate changed to 1.5%
• The deferment Threshold was increased to a wonderful student loan amount of £36,284 per year. That is equivalent to £3,023.66 monthly. 
• Statements are sent out every year in September. (covering from the preceding September to August of the following year)

• Interest rates are linked solely to the Retail Price Index, which changes every year. From 1 September until 31 August 2022, the interest rate on all student loans will be 1,5%.
• Interest is calculated daily at the rate from the day the student loan The interest on student loan accounts is applied monthly.
